USO Colorado Brightens Christmas for Service Men, Women, and Families
Established in 1941, the United Services Association is a congressionally chartered, private organization. It was formed when President Franklin D. Roosevelt united several different service organizations to boost the morale of our troops and encourage support back home. The newly found USO was comprised of the Salvation Army, YMCA, YWCA, National Jewish Welfare Board, National Travelers Aid Association, and National Catholic Community Services.
While the USO is congressionally chartered and works closely with the Department of Defense, it is not a federal program. On it’s website, the organization describes itself as:
“a family of volunteers, sustained by the charitable contributions of millions of generous Americans and united in our commitment to support America’s service members by keeping them connected to the very things they’ve sworn to defend – family, home and country. Our work is America’s most powerful expression of gratitude to the men and women who secure our nation’s freedoms.”
The USO Colorado serves military service members, spouses, and families across Colorado and Southern Wyoming. They have centers at Denver International Airport, Denver’s Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) Center, and Fort Carson along with programs and events across the area. USO Colorado’s aim is to make those who visit feel a touch of home.
USO Colorado sold their custom ornaments on their website to raise funds to make the holiday season special for service members and their families across CO and WY. A Hampshire Pewter custom piece, whether an ornament, keychain, magnet (or whatever idea you come up with!), is a great way to fundraise for your organization. Give us a call at 603.569.4944 to learn more about our custom process and to get started on your one-of-a-kind piece.
