Winnipesaukee Facts: Winnipesaukee is a Native American name meaning "Smile of the great spirit." At 21 miles long and 1-9 miles wide it has a surface area of 72 square miles. It has a shore line of 178 miles and is dotted with 258 islands. Maximum depth is 213 feet.
