The German Shepherd is brave, devoted, intelligent, and confident. They belong to the herding group and have a life span of about 7-10 years. The ancestors of today’s German Shepherds, originally herding dogs, were developed in the early 1800s by Captain Max von Stephanitz. Still originally to be a herding dog as the management of livestock changed and herd dogs were not needed von Stephanitz promoted the German Shepherd as a K-9 worker and is the preferred dog for police and military work all over the world.
