Akita = Snow Country Dogs
The Akita is dignified, courageous, lively, and faithful. They belong to the working group and have a life span of about 10- 13 years. The breed originated in northern Japan. The Akita has two varieties- Japanese strain called Akita Inu and the American strain called Akita or American Akita. Before they had an official name, they were simply called “snow country dogs”. They have webbed toes to help them walk on snow and are designated as a national treasure in Japan.
