Boston Light - Little Brewster Island

Boston Light is North America's oldest and most famous lighthouse. Located in Boston Harbor on Little Brewster Island in Massachusetts, it was built in 1716. It was the first true lighthouse with tower and glassed-in lantern in North America. It was badly damaged during the violence of the American Revolution and rebuilt in 1783. In 1859, fourteen feet was added to the height of the tower, making it 89 feet tall. Its Fresnel lens was installed in 1859 and is still in use today, providing 1,800,000-candlepower light, visible for up to sixteen miles.

New England Lighthouse Collection

The Boston Light is part of our special Christmas ornament collection. Each of the ornaments in our collection are finely detailed to capture what makes each lighthouse special. Some lighthouses are made of steel, similar to the Portland Headlight, others are made out of hand cut granite block, similar to the Thatcher Twin Lights; all the details are captured in our Christmas ornaments. click here to see our complete lighthouse collection

Ornaments Made in the USA

All of our Christmas ornaments are made in the USA. The ornaments are hand cast using our specialized centrifugal casting machine using vulcanized rubber molds. Our lead-free pewter is heated to a range of 500 - 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The pewter is then cast into the spinning mold carefully by hand. Once the pewter solidifies, the raw ornaments are taken out of the mold. The castings that are satisfactory to the watchful eye of the Pewtersmith are then deburred by hand. The ornaments are then put through our antiquing process. After drying completely, the Christmas ornaments are buffed by hand, removing just the right amount of the antiquing solution to create the beautifully detailed ornament. Finally, the ornaments are dusted, inspected, and packaged with our red elastic bow hangers.
